General Information & Philosophy

Welcome to Westminster School for Young Children where each day our teachers engage children in an adventure of growing, exploring, and experiencing a joy for learning.

Mission Statement
WSYC partners with families to provide developmentally appropriate preschool education in a respectful, creative, nurturing Christian environment.

Goals of Westminster School for Young Children
• Foster a warm, and accepting atmosphere;
• Affirm each person’s uniqueness and respects individual differences;
• Encourage freedom within established limits;
• Promote discovery, experimentation, and creative activities;
• Value play and promote play;
• Allow children to learn comfortably from failures and successes.

Centers of interest are set up in the classroom to meet the needs of different children by providing a variety of experiences and allowing for choices. Using these centers, children investigate the raw materials of life by feeling, touching, seeing, listening, smelling, and dramatizing.

Parent support and involvement are recognized as important aspects of a child’s development and are essential to the successful operation of the WSYC program. The preschool years are important for what a child needs now, and they serve as a preparation for kindergarten only to the degree any experience supports a later one. Children who have good learning experiences in the early years are more ready for learning skill subjects.

Westminster School for Young Children holds a Three-Star rating from the Department of Human services and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
